Camping at Soapstone
June 29-July 3
My mom and Kraig have reserved this site for several years in a row
and it is the best spot! Lots of shade, right next to the river, and close
(but not too stinky close) to the porta potty.

No more tents - the trailer is where it's at!!
River Adventures:
Anna and Kelsey
Prettiest wild flower I ever did see:
In an effort to avoid any more sun spots on my face
I joined the visor club and instantly aged 30 years.
This little river rat wanted to eat rocks all the day long!
We busted out the water shoes and went exploring:
Fresh air and no cell service: old school relaxation!
My mom and Kraig are dutch oven masters!
All of our meals were so tasty.
Mabel was definitely a Grandpa's girl on this trip...
she was his little sidekick helper.
This little boy thought being outside for most of
the of the day was the best thing ever!
When we needed Elliott contained we would put him
in the "park n play." It was perfect!

S'Mores every night of course!
(however I was on a no sugar challenge and didn't eat a single one.
and now i really wish i had one. or three.)
I wasn't quite sure how Mabel would do sleeping in the trailer
but she did great! Nate slept next to her the first night and then she slept
all by herself for the next three nights.

My mom said Mabel woke up each night for just a few minutes because
she was out of her sleeping bag and cold but my mom would tuck
her back in and she slept like a little log. She cried the last night and
said she wanted to camp forever!
Kelsey had work off and stayed for a night too:
Each evening me, Elliott, and Grandma would drive back
to her house for the night. It was only 20 minutes from the camp
to Kamas. Super convenient!

Elliott loved playing with Grandma's vintage toys:
Elliott is is really getting into reading books. He chooses some books,
brings them to you, and then backs himself up onto your lap. Pretty cute!
He loved having Great Grandma Naylor read to him.

He slept really well even though we were both in the same room.
(There was a skunk incident in the other guest room!!!)
We celebrated my mom's birthday on the 30th with presents AND
a hike to the fairy gardens! They were just two mile
markers up from our campsite so we didn't have to go far.
At first we thought it was just a "little" fairy garden....
but then you start walking further and further and it just keeps going!
Painted rocks and fairy land at every turn!!
This one was my favorite:
Mushroom Fantasy Inn - Two fairies per shroom!
We came back and my mom decided to try a new cake recipe,
we even let the birthday girl lick the bowl!
But here is the sad part....the cake didn't turn out.
Such a bummer! Dutch ovens can be tricky even for the masters!
We improvised with a candle stuck in a black licorice (her favorite):
I loved seeing Mabel's little bed all set up for the night:
Plus Nana had a cool special "luggable loo!"
So nice, especially at night, not having to leave the trailer.
Pretty fun brushing your teeth in the woods:
More river time:
Trying to change this boy's diaper is getting harder and harder.
We took a ride in Grandpa's truck to get water from
the spigot a few camp sites down the way.
Grandpa would stop at scenic byways:
Painting rocks - one of my favorite things to do camping!
However, it was a little challenging to paint a rock
while trying to watch Elliott so I did a mini rock this year.
Pork Chops and Potatoes
He wanted to be friends with that squirrel SO BAD.
Every time Mabel would go sit in this chair Elliott would cry and
want to get in it too!
Looking at a caterpillar:
Elliott started walking about a week before camp so he was still a
little unsure on his feet. It was cute watching him walk from thing to thing.
He knew he was much faster crawling to try and get the squirrel!
We can't wait until next year!!
