Burnt

Tonight I turned the oven up to 375 to preheat it for our tasty homemade pizza that needed to be cooked. Little did I know that Nate had left his two rolls from dinner the previous night in the oven. So the oven is heating up...for quite awhile actually (wheat pizza dough takes a little longer to roll out!) and I thought to myself that the oven smelled like something was burning but I figured it was just something that had dripped down from some other meal since I had NO IDEA there were two perfectly good rolls burning to a crisp inside! I opened the oven to put the pizza in and my eyelashes practically got singed off by heat and smoke and I was shocked to see these looking back at me:

burnt and hard as rocks. we laughed pretty hard.

Arctic Circle

Drove by this sign the other night and all I could picture was a kid reaching in for their chicken nuggets only to find their dead pet hamster instead!! Does anyone else think that Arctic Circle could have worded this a little differently?

21st Annual Leprechaun Lope 5K

Last Saturday my friend Sarah and I ran our first 5K! It started at the Capitol and ended at the bottom of Memory Grove. I was so glad Sarah let me invite myself to run with her (you can read more about her inspiring reasons for running here), she made jogging so much fun! Nate came along to be our #1 fan/photographer and the three of us had a yummy breakfast at Finn's after the race.

Spending Time with Grandpa Naylor

Last week my Grandpa Naylor got really sick and had to go to Intensive Care for a few days. They ran some tests and found a mass on his liver...it could just be a bundle of nerves that have settled there or it could be something more serious. They will be doing more tests this week, however, they were able to stabilize him and he got to come home Friday night. The whole family was there to welcome him! My family from Denver was here, my Aunt Koreen, Uncle Kim, and all their kids and grandkids came from California, and my Aunt Kristy and her kids came up too. They had already planned their trip here before my grandpa got sick so we all piled into my grandma's small house in Kamas and enjoyed eating, playing with the grandkids, and just spending some quality time together and with my grandpa. My Aunt Koreen and Uncle Kim also have some property in Woodland so we got to hang out over there riding snowmobiles, running around after the dogs, and getting some fresh Woodland air! We are praying that my grandpa's tests come back showing nothing serious to be concerned about. We love you Grandpa!

Sick CatKid

Not doing very well...

The drugs...

All his favorite spots vomit proofed...

Last Tuesday morning Nate took Charlie to the Cottonwood Pet Hospital because he hadn't been eating or drinking for the past two days, he was acting super tired, and he threw up 5 times Monday night. After a blood test, x-ray, and ultrasound (and as Nate and I kissed our tax return goodbye) the vet determined he had an inflamed bile duct caused by gall bladder issues and an infection that was affecting his liver. They aren't sure if he just got a virus or if he licked antifreeze or some
other poison outside.

Because he had a fever and was dehydrated they kept him overnight to get an IV going and to monitor him. We were able to pick him up Wednesday night and I knew we still had a long road ahead of us when he still wouldn't eat on his own and would throw up every time we gave him his antibiotic. Not to mention that Fritz was totally freaked out by the way Charlie smelled and he would hiss and growl at him. The next two days were a blur of force feeding every two hours, cleaning up barf (after a week with a sick cat I have cleaned up enough cat vomit to last a lifetime) having to take multiple trips to the vet to get different antibiotics, an anti-emetic, then an appetite stimulant. When Charlie finally ate on his own late Friday night I layed on the floor next to his food dish and cried. The past few days he has been eating and drinking like a champ and is starting to get his energy back. He is sitting on my lap as I type this and he is almost 100% better - what a relief!
