Silk

Okay, let me give a brief job update for those who I haven't talked to in awhile before I go into my silk shirt experience. I am no longer working at the adolescent treatment center--It was an enormous learning experience for me and I was able to get the social work hours I needed to apply for the program. Unfortunately, besides being a very emotionally draining job, the schedule they offered just wasn't working with my school/life schedule. I ended up having to work nights and weekends which I realized I just can't do right now.
.
About the time that I realized I needed to find another job Nate's boss Aaron mentioned that his wife needed help with the billing for their company. I could basically make my own schedule and also work from home if necessary. I started training and it worked out so I could take over completely and she could be home with her kids. So, I am currently the billing manager for Salt Lake R.E.O.--which is the company that Aaron started which deals with bank owned foreclosure properties. Nate used to be part of the Salt Lake REO team until he and Aaron started up a property management company called Premier Management of Utah. Now Nate is running Premier Management with Aaron, and Aaron is also the broker, and an agent, for Salt Lake REO. It's fun because Nate and I are in the same office together--he's upstairs and I'm downstairs. Doing the billing for this company has nothing to do with Social Work, and I will only be here until I get my degree, but it gives me the flexibility to take the classes I need to complete the Social Work program. (Since the lovely people at the U insist on making the mandatory classes in the middle of the day!! Hello??? Don't you know that school costs an arm and a leg and people need to work??!!) I am also still filling in at Abode once in awhile if they need me.
.
Now that all that is out--Salt Lake REO had team photos taken the other day. In the memo I got it said that the colors to wear were red, black, or white dress clothes. So I show up in black pants with a white button down shirt with a red tank top underneath so you could see a little red peeking through at the top. Little did I know that no one else decided to wear white so I stuck out like a sore thumb! I looked like frosty the snowman compared to everyone else in their sassy red and black outfits. The photographer looked at me as if I had lobsters growing out of my ears and it was at that moment that one of the other girls said she had brought along an extra shirt. Whew! And then she handed me the shirt. A long sleeved red silky shirt! Don't get me wrong, it probably looked great on her but silk is definately not my thing. I put it on anyway and luckily in the first picture I am pretty much hidden. But in the 2nd picure my silk is on full display. It really doesn't look so bad, other than the fact that it's silky, and shiny, and red.

Merriment

Monday night Nate and I both had a final and we finished early so we decided to come home and celebrate! We got out the Christmas decor, popped open some bubbly, and put The Christmas Story on. Nothing calms me quite like hearing the phrase, "Mommy's little piggy!"

Beehive Bazaar

I'm heading down to Provo tonight to check out the Beehive Bazaar--I have several friends making things so I am excited to see their goodies. This is the perfect event to get funky, handmade in Utah, one-of-a-kind gifts! Click here to check out their site:

Woah Nelly

I have now been sitting at my computer for almost two hours strengthening my relationship with the Internet. My eyes are burning and my left butt cheek is numb but hey, I was able to watch Brad Pitt's Oprah interview on YouTube (with Portuguese subtitles), I found out that a friend is expecting her third child, I left a few comments for old pals, watched several music videos, listened to momversation, and got my dooce addiction satisfied---all while petting the purring sleeping precious feline that was on my lap!
After a week of crazy school papers and busyness at work it sure feels good to veg out. And the best part is that tomorrow the weekend starts! Hurray for weekends.
Anyhoo...here are some pics from our Pre, During, and Post Thanksgiving Festivities...
1.2. 3.

1. Nate's cool wooden birthday postcard that I got at Frosty Darling.

2. Nate's birthday breakfast. Homemade blueberry scones with Clementines.

3. We celebrated Nate's birthday early since his birthday landed on Thanksgiving day this year (27 on the 27th--his golden year) and I wanted him to have his own day. We went to dinner at The Dodo and then I told him we had reservations somewhere. Well, if you know Nate his idea of a perfect weekend is staying up late watching movies and eating treats. So before he got home from work I set up our tv in our bedroom (which is unusual for us because we aren't tv in the bedroom kind of people) and I rented several movies and got all sorts of gummy sugary snacks. He loved that we had the theatre all to ourselves and the most comfortable seats--our bed!

We spent Thanksgiving day at The Tew's and had a tasty meal.

Pictured on the left is my Thanksgiving dinner complete with faux meat, Georgia's delicious yams and apples, mashed potatoes with vege gravy and some Martinelli's to wash it down. Pictured on the right is my worst nightmare. Not Kristy, but the vein ridden dark meat leg of a once frolicking turkey. She actually was grossed out by it too and after posing for this picture didn't really eat it.

The Gang

Happy Birthday Nate!

Then on Friday we drove up to Kamas to hang out with my granparents and my family who drove up from Colorado.

We played games galore and laughed at each other while playing Malarky.

Grandma gave me this great chip and dip bowl that was given to her as a wedding present in 1951! I also brought some old photographs home to scan--I think I'll feature one tomorrow.

Then on Sunday morning my friend Val from BYU-Idaho stopped by to say hi on her way back to Boise.
Here is our prom picture:
