Gilgal Gardens

Last Sunday Nate and I went to check out Salt Lake's Gilgal Gardens. It's nestled between several quaint little houses and I would have never known it existed if a friend hadn't mentioned it to me. I'll get straight to the point: I was fascinated the moment I walked in. Here's a little history-- The historic sculpture garden was created by Thomas B Child, Jr (1888-1963) to give physical form to his deep-felt beliefs. (that sentence was straight off the visitor's pamphlet!)

So you walk in and there are around a dozen interesting sculptures (mostly revolving around LDS beliefs) and over 70 stones engraved with scriptures, poems, and philosophical texts. What is amazing is that this guy was 57 years old when he started creating this garden!

I was tired just thinking about the time it must have took to engrave so many words into so many stones.

The quote on the rock is from Job 19:23-26.

We sat down on the rock "patio" next to the Captain of the Lord's Host sculpture. In the pamphlet it said that this little stone patio was Child's favorite place for mediation. In my mind's eye I pictured Thomas Child sitting in the exact spot I was on a Sunday afternoon thinking about life and what is really important. It was one of those perfect peaceful moments of clarity for me. "Child shared Gilgal Garden with thousands of visitors during his lifetime. He hoped the garden would inspire viewers to ponder 'the unsolved mysteries of life' and struggle to find their own answers."

A much needed pool day

Rebecca, Addison, and I spent a lovely afternoon at the Draper Pool yesterday. It was so nice to talk and get caught up on each others lives while floating in the cool shallow water- It was a beautiful summer day! We were even brave enough to jump off the diving board...check it out:

As we were getting things packed into the car to go home Addison was sitting in her stroller with her chubby little finger in her pacifier and it was so funny to me! She has two bottom teeth and has two on the top that are just poking through so she loves to gnaw on things.

Bianca

Today my sweet sister Bianca went to be with her brother Bernard in cat heaven.
Bianca was born in Francis, Utah approximately 12 or so years ago. Bianca was always a shy girl but loved that quiet moment when she felt safe enough to jump on your lap and have her head scratched. She and Bernard loved to chase birds and mice and in her later years Bianca became quite fond of laying for hours in the warm sun on the porch. Bianca has never been able to meow--instead it's a strange squeaking clicking sound that always gave us a laugh.
Bianca is survived by her mother: Sherrill Naylor, father: Kraig Naylor, grandparents: Keith and Karmen Naylor, and siblings: Jessica Tew, Kelsey Naylor, and Jacob Naylor. She will also be missed by her younger sister Zoe who wanted nothing more than to be her best friend and playmate despite their differences.
Bianca, you were a great pet cat even with all your strange little ways! I miss your squeaky meow already. God be with you till we meet again~

Timpanogos' Dark Knight

My mom was so excited for all of us to hike to the Mt. Timpanogos caves on Friday. We spaced the fact that this was a holiday weekend in Utah and when we got there it was packed. The next tour wasn't for two hours! By then it was going to be way too hot and we wouldn't have time for the three hour hike and tour. So we decided to check out the bat cave instead and headed to the theatre to see the new batman movie.
Now, for those of you that know me I am very particular about my movies. I listened to a whole segment about the new Batman movie on NPR and so I was looking forward seeing what it was all about. Overall I thought it was very well made---but being the sensitive soul that I am it was just a little too dark and too violent for me. Heath did a great job as the joker but I think I might have nightmares. Too psychologically spooky.
