x.o.x.o.

On Valentine's Day we picked up my mom from the airport and drove to the dialysis center where my grandparents were spending a super romantic afternoon! Not. (Grandpa has dialysis 3 x each week) My mom came out for the weekend to stay in Kamas and help my grandparents while my grandma had to be on strict bed-rest for 24 hours after having a shot in her back for some severe pain that has been bothering her.

Great Grandma Naylor and Nana Naylor gave Mabel lots of Valentine goodies!
Mabel was over the moon for this heart shaped sucker.

After dialysis we stopped at Rumbi for an early dinner and Nate met us there after he got off work.

When we finished dinner we decided to stop and say hi to our midwife who was having a little Valentine open house where clients and their kiddos could come say hi and decorate some sugar cookies. (her office is right down the road from Rumbi)
Right before we left Rumbi I went to change Mabel's diaper and realized I had NO MORE diapers in my diaper bag. Nate said, "Wow. That is so unlike you."
I know, right?!!
If she was just wet I would have let it go until we got home but it was a stinker.
My mom and I decided we would change her and then create a makeshift diaper from toilet paper and paper towels (It really did sounds like a decent idea then) since all we were just going to stop and say hi to our midwife and then head home.

Mabel was a champ and didn't even flinch at her toilet paper diaper
and we headed out.  Well....apparently we didn't pad the front enough because when we got her out of her car seat she looked like this:

Business in the back, pee in the front.

But never fear when you are at a birthing center! Rebecca only had newborn size diapers but she did have some sweet granny underoos that she let Mabel have so she could still play and not get her pee pants on everything.
Good times everybody!

OVERNIGHT GETAWAY!!
Our first overnight away (alone) since Mabel was born.
Waaaaaaaaaay overdue.

We checked into our hotel...

...and headed to our dinner reservation at The Roof restaurant
which is on the top floor of the beautiful Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

Oh hello view!

We got to enjoy a romantic dinner overlooking the
Salt Lake City temple where we were married.
In the center of the restaurant there is a glass piano and it was
really lovely to have live piano music in the background.

The only bummer and it was a big bummer: the food.
It was really mediocre for the price.
It's a buffet, but still. I have been to a few pretty awesome buffets (think Vegas!)
and The Roof's buffet was pretty sad.  Small selection, nothing too fancy,
and nothing that really stood out.  The desserts were very pretty but weren't that tasty either.
The best part of my meal was my passion fruit Italian soda!
Oh well, live and learn!
(but what a view from our table huh?)

The next morning we went to The Sanctuary and had a couple's massage.
I wish we could do that every. single. day.
(thanks for the recommendation Megan!)

After the massage they brink you drinks, chocolates,
and a slice of cheesecake to share while you get to soak in this awesome tub.
Our next house is definitely going to have a tub like this.

Thank you to Nate's parents and my sister-in-law Kristy
who took care of Mabel so we could enjoy a great weekend!

Champion Pooper

{jones porter tew}

On January 2nd my sister-in-law Jenna had baby #4.
Since we have been sickness free we have gone to visit Baby Jones a few times this month.
Mabel LOVES him.
When we came to visit the first time Nate's mom Georgia was getting ready to change Jones' poopy diaper.  Mabel was very curious and wanted to be right by her side to see what was going on and wow, this diaper adventure did not dissapoint!  We thought he was done with his business so Georgia started to change him but apparently we were wrong, VERY WRONG! I have never seen a kid poop so much. It just kept coming out and coming out. I was laughing so hard and trying to grab wipes for Georgia as she tried to contain things since we already had his diaper partially off.  We were cracking up and Mabel just stood there trying to make sense of the poop chaos.  Just when we thought he was really done he let out a big toot and it made us all jump!  So, now whenever we ask Mabel about Baby Jones, or mention his name, or she sees his baby announcement, she makes a fart sound with her mouth. EVERY TIME. It's great.

We visited again a few days before Valentine's weekend
and Jenna had everything set up for a LOVE-ly dinner.

New Food Group: Goldfish

Brenna taught me how to play chess and
I played and lost my first game ever.

I brought some Valentine cookies for us to decorate:

A few people in this family have a slight obsession with frosting.
Like father like son.

Gettin' my craft on...

I am finally starting to collect and make some little treasures for each holiday.  In years past we had a small condo with hardly any storage and we pretty much only had room to keep a few totes of Christmas stuff. I remember my mom always putting out decorations for each holiday (Nate's mom did this too) and I want Mabel to have the same experience. It's fun for kids.

So, since I did not have a single Valentine's day decoration I started out by following my friend Nicole's  Pom Pom wreath tutorial and making this little beauty at our DIY night.

Then, since I put my cute little owl heart wreath on my front door and was sad that I couldn't see it I had to make another little something for my entryway.

Lots of Pom Pom love over here.

It's been just a tad bit nippy!

{january}

We battled cabin fever last month by doing the following:

Drinking from an airplane cup:

Getting over a REALLY SAD little cold:
(cold and an ear infection at the beginning of January)

When she was sick she was super cuddly and would
wake up from her nap wanting me to snuggle her.
For several days in a row she fell asleep in my arms.

I think I have watched this video a hundred times...
I am constantly in awe of how much my heart loves this little person.

 STICKERS!

We celebrated (twice in one day!)
Militza no longer being a teenager:

Dinner with a BIG group of friends at Santa Monica Pizza & Pasta:
(Jocelyn - Do you love that I always use your photos? Such a good friend)

Lots and lots of Play-Doh time.
Plus tightening a few loose screws on her table.

Having some friends over for dinner:

Phone calls to whomever I can beg (Nate and my mom)
to talk and talk while she is completely silent.
Then she cries when she accidentally hangs up.

She hasn't gotten tired of her vacuum!
Seriously the best dollar I ever spent.

She used to be afraid to get on this motorized little
four wheeler when she first got it...
now she cruises around the basement like a race car driver!

FINALLY she likes to color! I have been trying to color with her for months but she was never very interested. Oh boy, now she loves it. We also have coloring on our fridge, chairs, and dishwasher.  Thank goodness crayon comes off so easy.

This girl is obsessed with the snow.
Loves to watch it, touch it, eat it.

Here she is helping daddy salt the driveway:

The cold weather has forced us to spend too much time and money at Target.
Oh Target, why do you have so many thing I want to buy?
Don't get me started on the Valentine's stuff.

She was intrigued by the snow removal taking place
outside the South Jordan library.
She talked about it for the rest of the day. She loves to reenact things.
She would move her hands and babble and tell me about it.
A little bobcat tractor loader would scoop up the snow and then drive to the edge of the sidewalk where it would dump the snow in a big yellow front loader that would drive it over to the back of the parking lot then dump it in a pile.
Over and over again.
She loved every minute of it.

Little owl lunch date:

After several Pinterest activity fails, like this and this,
we finally found one she played with for longer than 30 seconds.
BEANS!

Snow:
The Perfect Afternoon Snack

(Even the octopus wants a bite)

Teaching her the art of the funny face:

and last but not least:
BOOK CLUB!

PS: Mabel update:
(in case there wasn't enough in this post)

She still loves to hug and kiss EVERYTHING.
I don't ever want it to end because it is the cutest thing ever.
She hugs and kisses people, animals, toys, books, flowers, towels, chairs, her blanket, our coffee table...the other morning when she wanted to hug and kiss Charlie's hairball I had to draw the line.

She also begs for red bell peppers any time she sees them.
Eats them like candy.

And just so I don't forget, she is currently really interested in stop lights and what they mean. We have been talking about how red means STOP, yellow means SLOW DOWN, and green means GO. When we go through a light she says more more more more more over and over again until she sees another light. The other day we drove up 5400 South and she was in light heaven. It's kind of a ridiculous road.
