Butter Treat

So when I got my hair trimmed several weeks ago my stylist asked the dreaded question that they always try to play off as totally innocent...."Soooo, what kind of Shampoo and Conditioner are you using?" (as she tosses her head to the side and her glowing shining beautiful locks cascade around her face because she gets a discount on all the products that I can't pronounce) I looked down at the ground and answered, "L'Oreal.......Paris" (I thought the Paris part made it sound more professional - it says Paris right on the bottle!)

She clicked her tongue a few times and told me that explained things. Then she just went on cutting. That explained things??? Like what? That my hair is curly as all get out and it goes in all directions and she has no idea what it's like to live with a massive mane of hair? It didn't help that it had been way to long since my last cut so of course there were a few dead ends here and there....and all over.

I decided to stand my ground. I calmly explained that I just couldn't justify spending half my paycheck on shampoo and conditioner - especially when you have as much hair as I do and you have to use half a bottle each time! I told her that we could compromise - I would keep using my shampoo from Paris and I would fork over a little cash for a deep conditioner. Oh yes she said, she had just the thing. Redken's Butter Treat that is a total of 8.5 ounces and cost me 5 times what my normal conditioner does. (I'm serious.)

So, they were all out when I left and she said she would call me when the new order came in. I picked up my Butter Treat today and when I got home the first thing I did was compare the ingredients to that of my conditioner from Paris.
Hmmmmmm...let's see....

First ingredient on both: Aqua/Water

Second ingredient on both: Cetearyl Alcohol (which makes no sense to me)

Then the rest of the ingredients differ here and there with a Dihydrocholride here and a Cocoamphodipropionate there.

Butter Treat's claim to fame is it's Macadamia Oil...
L'Oreal's is Camelina Seed Oil.

Basically I am sick of hair products and how much they cost and what they claim to do. Anyone else feel my pain?

P.S. Anyone had success with Butter Treat?

Don't think there is much difference!!! I think they just charge more because it's in a fancy-pants package! My hair does better when I constantly change things up anyway -- but then again, look at my hair right now!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I found a half used bottle of Butter Treat at a gym's lost and found I once worked at. I milked that bottle for as long as I could, only using it once a week or so. I could tell a difference...but compared to VO5...that was to be expected. My hair dresser has suggested that I use Redkin. I'll give it a shot. And since I only wash my hair every two or three days, and its short, I can justify the purchase. It will last a long time.
Good luck.

This story makes me laugh. I sure like the name butter treat. Let me know how it goes. You know I need all the hair advice I can get. I have always been jealous of your beautiful curly hair. I don't care what you say, it always looks great!

At least you don't have a Texas bowl cut.
